German-Colombian Training and Demonstration Project for Agroecology

The German-Colombian Training and Demonstration Project for Agroecology by BMEL will test and validate innovative agro-ecological approaches. The results and findings will contribute to the further development of the agricultural extension system in Colombia. The project also aims at strengthening the framework conditions and knowledge networks necessary for dissemination. Political partners are the BMEL and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia (MADR). The operational project partner in Colombia is the Colombian agricultural research corporation AGROSAVIA

Project objective: Agroecological approaches with a high impact on food security and the socio-economic situation of marginalised and vulnerable groups as well as on climate and biodiversity protection are increasingly available.

The office location will be in Bogotá

Tasks of the expert

  • Management of the project (content, strategy, methodology, personnel management)
  • Advising the Colombian partners on agroecological issues
  • Development of technical contributions and advisory services on the priority topics
  • Coordinating the activities of project team members and short-term experts
  • Communication, networking, building and maintaining relationships with relevant project partners and involving them in the project work
  • Managing activities, prioritising and taking responsibility for achieving the planned results of the project
  • Planning STE assignments and project travels to Germany and/or Latin American countries
  • Development of an M&E system
  • Informing the interested public about the work of the project - knowledge management
  • Cooperation with GFA, BMEL and the German Embassy in Bogotá
  • Organisation, implementation and reporting of the annual project steering committee
  • Reporting to the commissioning parties (PKB, PFB, PSB, PP, special reports)
Qualifications: 

Necessary minimum requirements / exclusion criteria

  • Completed university degree
  • At least 7 years of professional experience
  • Good written and spoken English and Spanish skills
  • German language skills

Other qualifications / experience that will be positively considered as part of the assessment (an advantage)

Professional background

  • University degree in agricultural sciences or other relevant degree programmes
  • Experience in international technical cooperation
  • Professional experience in the field of agroecology or organic farming
  • Experience with institutional and/or policy advice, especially experience in cooperation with German ministries and political institutions of other countries
  • Experience with the preparation of studies, concepts, consultancy products in the agricultural and food sector
  • Experience in working with indigenous or marginalised groups
  • Experience in the private sector (e.g. marketing of organically produced food)
  • Experience in the field of agricultural consulting

Regional expertise and language skills

  • Professional experience in Colombia or another Latin American country
  • Knowledge of Portuguese, very good knowledge of English, at least good knowledge of German

Methodological expertise

  • Skills in the development of cooperation models, benchmarking, strategies, consulting methodology, training concepts and systems (including virtual and blended learning).
  • Practical experience in working with many different stakeholders - networking (cooperation with government agencies, academia, civil society and the private sector)
  • Knowledge of socially and ecologically relevant issues and gender equality
  • Organisational and management skills
Start / Duration: 

From 02/2024 to 12/2026 with option to extend by 24 months to 12/2028
