Ferghana Valley Water Resources Management Project – Phase II is implemented in accordance with the Presidential Decree of September No. PP-3282 dated 16-09-2017. Uzbekistan is the sixth-largest cotton producer in the world; cotton is of key importance for national economic and social development. The Government has taken major steps towards substantial reform. In support of these reforms, the programme focuses on the promotion of sustainable cotton production and on fostering entrepreneurship amongst the downstream segments of the textile ‘pipeline’ beyond ginning, to develop and strengthen domestic capacities for processing sustainable cotton.

Financial Sector Programme Value Chain Agro Finance

The potential of value-chain financing in the agricultural sector in Tajikistan still needs to be developed, and the cost, risk and access problem of agricultural credit as well as the problem of limited market access of agricultural Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) need to be solved. KfW on behalf of the German Government will provide EUR 8.6 million as a grant to the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, represented by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan (MEDT).
