Capitalisation of the endowment fund of the Global Crop Diversity Trust and strengthening of national seedbanks

The Seeds for Resilience project aims to empower national seed collections (genebanks), by safeguarding them in perpetuity through an endowment fund, documenting and managing them appropriately for conservation and use, and promoting their use, as a basis for climate adaptation of vulnerable African cropping systems.
For this ongoing project we are looking for an experienced consultant in the areas of construction coordination, projects evaluation and management, tenders preparation and management of providers and contractors. The consultant will work in coordination with other consultants (e.g. architect or mechanical engineer). As a scope of work for this expert, s/he will be involved in project activities in Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia, Ghana and Nigeria. Travel is required.

    Qualifications: 

    To reach the above mentioned objectives of this assignment, the consultant is expected to conduct the following tasks:

    • Assist in the selection of appropriate providers that will conduct site surveys and design rehabilitation plans as per the terms of reference of ongoing tenders.
    • Assess and analyze the proposals received.
    • Advise the Crop Trust and its project partners in any question related to the design of the rehabilitation plan, studies, budget as per the terms of reference of ongoing tenders.
    • Provide technical advice to the Crop Trust and its project partners to select the best possible design, materials and technical requirement

    Qualifications and skills:

    • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or architecture is required
    • 7+ years of experience supervising working in construction supervision
    • Work experience in project types ranging from hospitals to laboratories
    • Experience in construction coordination, projects evaluation and management, tenders, providers and contractors management, reporting
    • Strong leadership, organizational, communication skills are essential
    • Software knowledge: AutoCAD
