AFC launches ProAgri III in Benin

03.11.2017

Together with its partner IDC Unternehmensberatung GmbH, AFC is again involved in the implementation of ProAgri (Promotion de l’Agriculture) in Benin, financed by GIZ. After implementing two components of the project’s first phase in 2011-2014, AFC is now active in the third phase of the project.

The ProAgri intervention area comprises 16 selected communes in the four departments Atakora, Donga, Borgou and Collines in Benin. The third phase of ProAgri works in three fields of action:

  1. Policy and strategic support
  2. Structuring of value chains
  3. Qualification of service providers and selected sector actors

Our consortium is responsible for the implementation of the third field of action. ProAgri is working along 4 selected value chains, which are rice, soy, cashew and karité. During the next three years, our team will develop and promote each of these value chains. ProAgri aims to provide producers and service providers with the required skills to contribute to the sustainable development of value chains. Therefore, our activities include, for instance, the adaptation of existing qualifications concepts and the development and dissemination of basic learning programs based on the Farmer Business School (FBS) approach. Furthermore, our team will develop and update qualification and training materials for the different value chains, will implement and monitor basic qualification measures, and will carry out specific value chain qualifications at target group level, qualify service providers for the provision of additional services for the respective value chains, introduce models of contract farming and joint selling, help associations develop business models to provide services to their members, etc.
