Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion (SEDEP)

The overall goal of the intervention is to increase employment opportunities and income in agriculture sector especially poultry products, cashmere, dairy products, wheat, almonds, in North Afghanistan. The project focuses on technical -, organizational - and business skills of the value chain actors, and partly on rehabilitation of rural infrastructure, and improvement of the dialogue between public and private sector actors.

Tasks:

  • Responsibility for the achievement of results on provincial level (monthly monitoring, inputs to reporting)
  • Advise of public and private programme partners
  • Professional leadership and coordination of the national long-term experts and staff
  • Management of the provincial offices
  • Responsibility for the design and implementation of value chain upgrading strategies, measures and activities in the respective value chains and particular province
  • Responsibility for organisational development of sector associations and institutions providing services to the target groups
  • Design and organisation of implementation of trainings for different stakeholders of the addressed value chains
  • Peace and conflict sensitive design of implemented measures
  • Contribution to the realisation of synergies between the activities and addressed value chains in the between the six provinces
  • Networking with the integrated experts and development advisors on provincial level in relevant fields
  • Needs formulation and management of short term experts
Qualifications: 

Requirements:

  • At least five years of professional experience in technical/international cooperation projects including management and leadership responsibility
  • Profound applied knowledge of and at least five years project experience in agricultural value chain development/local and regional economic development
  • Excellent advisory skills
  • Technical expertise in the fields of:
    • Value chain development and multi-stakeholder management
    • (Sustainable) production techniques in agriculture: plant production and animal production particularly with regard to the relevant agricultural products
    • On-farm storage and marketing of the relevant agricultural products
    • Storage, processing and packaging of the relevant agricultural products
    • SME-Support preferably in the agro-processing sector
    • Quality and food standards
  • Development and support to private and public agricultural and business services with special attention to the needs of women
  • Experience with peace and conflict sensitive implementation methodology
  • Experience in the design of participatory development processes including community based approaches
  • Experience in the design and implementation of trainings oriented towards the needs of specific target groups, development of curricula, materials and methods
  • Regional experience in Afghanistan preferably in agricultural/private sector development projects
  • Educational background (MSc or comparable) in economics, agriculture, social sciences or related fields
  • Excellent intercultural competence and sensitivity
  • Fluency in English is obligatory, fluency in German preferable
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to (frequently) travel within Afghanistan
