Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Tanzania_Seed Sector Support for Competitive African Rice Initiative (CARI)

CARI is implemented in Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Tanzania with the aim of reaching 100,000 African male and female rice producers as well as rice processors, including artisanal rice millers and parboiling women groups. Secondary beneficiaries are rural service providers, e.g. agro-dealers, suppliers and operators of agricultural machinery and rice
millers improving their sourcing capacity of quality supply. CARI phase II is implemented over three years (07/2018 - 06/2021).
The overarching CARI strategy is built on the identification, optimization and expansion of sustainable business models that integrate small-scale rice producers. CARI’s technical and financial assistance is based on a value chain approach. CARI’s strategy focuses on intervention areas that will result in the following objectives:

  • Increased experience sharing amongst actors of the rice value chain
  • Sustainably improved inclusive business relationships
  • Improved access to financial services for actors of the rice value chain
  • Improved policy framework for rice value chain

Tasks of the short-term expert pool

  • Implementation of service according to tasks and activities described above
  • Coordinating and ensuring communication with GIZ, partners and others involved in the project
  • Regular reporting in accordance with deadlines
Qualifications: 

Qualifications of the short-term expert pool

  • Education/training : University degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Economics or related
  • Language : Very good language skills in English, very good language skills in French
  • General professional experience : At least 7 years of experience in the rice sector, with at least 5 years of professional experience on rice seed systems
  • At least 5 years of experience in market research and in economics of rice production and processing,
  • Professional experience in the rice and seed sector of Nigeria and Burkina Faso respectively
  • At least 5 years of experience in Africa, previous work experience in Nigeria and Burkina Faso preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience in Development Cooperation
