Kenya_TA Programme to various EIB Financial Sector Operations in East Africa

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has supported the development of the MSME sector in East Africa by providing over EUR 800 million to support local financial institutions and improve the access to finance for MSMEs.

The financing programme is comple­mented with technical assistance to support:

  1. bank staff training;
  2. capacity building activities; and
  3. training of MSMEs.

 

The technical assistance programme is implemented by a consortium in­cluding AFC Agriculture and Finance Consultants, ADG, and INTEGRATION.

From May 2014 through October 2018, the project has supported 31 fi­nancial institutions in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda; with 424 train­ings attended by over 9,126 bank staff, 160 capacity building activities; and 238 customer training events were organized and attended by over 17,761 MSMEs.

The overall objective is to ensure that EIB’s SME and Microfinance loan facilities are allocated to creditworthy Final Beneficiaries and that a number of up to 41 Financial Intermediaries (FIs) are endowed with sustainable internal structures to be able to continuously support the East and Central African MSME sector.

For this project, we are looking to find a long-term expert with specific expertise in non-performing loan management/workout/recovery and vast credit risk management experience. The duty station will be Nairobi, Kenya.

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate should be Kenyan (or regional) with a profound experience in banking. The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • Highly experienced in non-performing loans/loan recovery/loan workout/delinquency management
  • Credit risk management
  • Finance/banking in commercial banks
  • Experience in capacity building/ training for banks
  • University degree (ideally Master) in finance, banking or related field
  • Experienced/senior expert
  • Kenyan national or regional
