Economics of Climate Change in Central and West Asia

The technical assistance (TA) seeks to address the lack of robust evidence on the options and costs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (mitigation) and reduce the negative effects of climate change (adaptation) in Central and West Asia.

The specialist will contribute to the development of the climate change impact assessment of the energy sector and the formulation of adaptation options.

The specialist will:

Economics of Climate Change in Central and West Asia

The technical assistance (TA) seeks to address the lack of robust evidence on the options and costs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (mitigation) and reduce the negative effects of climate change (adaptation) in Central and West Asia.

The specialist will be responsible for the development of high-resolution climate scenarios. The specialist will:

(i) define a methodology for the development of climate scenarios, including assumptions under different scenarios and treatment of uncertainties;

Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion (SEDEP)

The overall goal of the intervention is to increase employment opportunities and income in agriculture sector especially poultry products, cashmere, dairy products, wheat, almonds, in North Afghanistan. The project focuses on technical -, organizational - and business skills of the value chain actors, and partly on rehabilitation of rural infrastructure, and improvement of the dialogue between public and private sector actors.

Tasks:

Horticulture Development Project (HDP)

The Horticulture Development Project (HDP) is aimed at assisting the Government of Uzbekistan to improve the productivity, profitability and competitiveness of the horticulture sector. The objectives of the project are to be achieved through

(i) provision of agriculture support services to bridge the knowledge and experience gap related to new production, storage, post-harvest handling, and marketing knowledge and experience in the

country;

The overall goal of the intervention is to increase employment opportunities and income in agriculture sector especially poultry products, cashmere, dairy products, wheat, almonds, in North Afghanistan. The project focuses on technical -, organizational - and business skills of the value chain actors, and partly on rehabilitation of rural infrastructure, and improvement of the dialogue between public and private sector actors.

Technical Regulations and Enhancement of the Quality Infrastructure in Turkmenistan

The project's overall objective is to support the development of a “business enabling” environment by updating the approach to Standards and Technical Regulations and Quality Infrastructure and to improve the compatibility between Turkmen Standards and Technical Regulations and international practices, also with the scope of increasing the opportunities for market access for economic operators and the perspective of further alignment of technical regulations to WTO standards.
