Project Manager (f/m) Financial Sector Development

AFC Agriculture & Finance Consultants (www.afci.de) has been globally active in the field of technical and financial cooperation for 40 years and is currently implementing more than 90 projects in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. Our clients are internationally renowned donor organizations such as GIZ, KfW, EIB, EU, ADB and IFC among others.

At present, more than 35 staff members work at our head office in Bonn, Germany, and more than 350 short and long-term experts are active for us worldwide. The annual turnover of AFC is approx. € 22 million (2016).

In the last 15 years, we have continuously expanded from our original fields, agriculture and agribusiness, to include activities in financial sector development. Today, AFC benefits from the close cooperation between both departments. 

AFC has been part of the GOPA Group – Germany’s largest group of consulting companies in development cooperation – since 2007 and profits from this close cooperation.

As part of the expansion of our financial sector development segment, we are looking for a Project Manager (f/m) for the following fields:

  • Financial Institutions Development
  • SME Finance

As part of our dynamic development and growth, we seek to strengthen our headquarter team with an experienced Project Manager who also takes on leadership responsibilities.

You bring in solid skills in project management and business development as well as experience in leading processes and personnel, and ideally in banking/finance. We are looking for a proactive and hands-on person, socially competent, eager for organizing and implementing projects and ready to take on responsibility.

Your tasks:

  • Business development: managing and coordinating project acquisition through early intelligence, networking, fact-finding, preparing and writing proposals; selecting the personnel for the project supervision and quality control
  • Project management: Technical and financial management; supervision and quality control of project implementation; actively interacting with strategic donors such as KfW, GIZ, EIB and ADB
  • Close cooperation with the consortium partners and local partners
  • Contributing to developing new markets for our financial sector development team
  • Providing professional input on further technical development of the following topics: financial institutions advisory, SME finance and rural finance
  • Building and maintaining a professional network with the various donor organizations and the beneficiaries (banks, micro-finance institutions and ministries/ regulators in developing and emerging countries), existing and new consortium partners and external cooperation partners.
Qualifications: 

Your profile:

  • University degree (Master) in economics, business administration, agricultural economics or similar
  • Several years of professional experience in the field of financial sector development
  • Several years’ experience in development cooperation
  • Knowledge of banking structures, rural finance and SME finance would be an advantage
  • Professional experience in the consulting sector and/or in consulting for financial institutions (banks, NBFIs, MFIs, etc.) in the context of development cooperation would be an advantage
  • Full proficiency in written and spoken English and German; French would be an asset
  • A solid network within relevant financing institutions, e.g. KfW, GIZ, EIB
  • Flexibility, resilience, a self-assured manner as well as excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Team player and ability to work in multi-cultural teams
  • Willingness to international travel
